Top 5 Places to Visit in Maine

When visiting the state of Maine there is so much to see and do. Sometimes it is hard to decide what you should make a priority. Well, I am from Maine. I was born and raised there. So here are a list of the top 5 things I think you should see when visiting Maine.

1. Camden Maine. Along scenic Route 1 you will find many cute little towns and shops. Camden is a very crowded town but it is worth the visit. There are several very good restaurants right in the village. There are shops that you will find nowhere else in the world. The energy and the people are simply wonderful. I highly suggest that you find a place to park and visit this little town.

2. Belfast Maine. Again this is a town filled with unique shops. There are not as many restaurants that I would recommend but there are a few depending on your tastes. My favorite restaurant in Belfast is the Weathervane. It sits down on the warf and they serve wonderful seafood. In the summer there is also a train ride offered in the area. This is a lot of fun for adults and kids alike.

3. Moose Point State Park in Searsport Maine. Moose Point State Park is a wonderful stop along your journey. Have a picnic, walk on the beach, or just enjoy a little peace in nature.

4. Fort Knox State Park in Prospect Maine is a lot of fun for adults and kids too. Located on the west bank of the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine, in an area known as the Penobscot Narrows, Fort Knox is one of the best preserved fortifications on the New England seacoast. Fort Knox was established in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River valley against a possible future British naval incursion. There are lots of old cannons and dungeons to explore. It's like walking through an old castle. As a kid I used to love to visit here as often as I could.

5. Acadia National Park is located in Maine on the rock- bound shore of Mount Desert Island. Acadia is the most beautiful place to visit if you are a lover of nature. There are more trails than you could ever walk along. There are biking trails and hiking trails. You will find dozens of lakes and ponds, grass fields and hills. Acadia National Park ranges from meadows and marshes to dense evergreen forests. Just an amazing place to visit.
There are a lot more wonderful places to visit in Maine. These are simply my top 5 loves in Maine and I've listed them in order along the main scenic drive so that your trip might be enhanced by them.
